From 17 to 19 December 2025, the Second World Health Organization (WHO) Traditional Medicine Summit was held in New Delhi, India. Professor Hongchun Yin, founder of Yin’s Modern Tongue Diagnostics (MTD), received significant international recognition—the system he established, Yin’s MTD, was selected as one of the 21 most outstanding innovative projects globally under the WHO’s “Health and Heritage Innovation” initiative. During the summit, he delivered a speech via global livestream, highlighting the international influence of MTD.
During the summit event on 17 December, Professor Yin was invited to deliver a speech, elaborating on the theoretical foundation, technical features, and clinical value of Yin’s MTD. The speech was broadcast in real-time globally via the WHO’s official platform, attracting the attention of numerous international scholars, clinical practitioners, and policymakers in traditional medicine, thereby further promoting the international dissemination and recognition of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and MTD.
Yin’s MTD is the result of Professor Yin’s many years of dedicated research. The system integrates the essence of TCM tongue diagnosis with holographic biology principles, modern medicine and Professor Yin’s own discoveries and innovations. It has also established a correspondence system between tongue diagnosis and herbal medicine/acupuncture. The system is committed to standardising, objectifying, and digitalising tongue diagnosis, providing an innovative pathway for the practice and application of TCM diagnostics in modern medical contexts. Its selection as one of the 21 most outstanding innovative projects under the WHO’s “Health and Heritage Innovation” initiative signifies that this innovative achievement has been highly acclaimed in the field of international traditional medicine innovation and possesses potential for global promotion.
The WHO’s “Health and Heritage Innovation” initiative aims to encourage and recognise innovative projects that integrate traditional wisdom with modern technology and have made significant contributions to global health. The successful inclusion of Yin’s MTD not only affirms Professor Yin’s personal academic contributions but also strongly supports the modernisation of TCM diagnostics, setting an exemplary model for international exchange and cooperation in TCM.
Professor Yin is the author of Modern Tongue Diagnostics in Chinese Medicine (2018) and 殷氏现代舌诊原理与图谱 (2019). He sits on the Honorary Advisory Board of King’s CICM and is the Consultant Editor for the TCM content of the King’s CICM website.
